What's in my wardrobe

I am always asked where I like to shop, what I invest in, and have I any fashion dislikes. These are difficult questions to answer given that fashion constantly changes and, naturally, so do I. Being surrounded by fashion on a daily basis does open your eyes to new things, new trends, and new styling tips, but I tend to stay true to the pieces I like to wear and that suit my shape. I have essentially been wearing the same ‘go-to’ outfit for years, but change this each season with new colours, shapes, and lots of accessories. So what is the outfit? Well let me break it down for you.

There is a stylish cover up for every occasion

Summer occasions and parties are in full swing and most of us are in the lookout for ‘the’ outfit. No outfit is complete without the perfect cover up, and the weather being what it is, it is nearly impossible to get away without a jacket or coat. These are much more than just cover ups — jackets, wraps, capes, or summer coats shape any outfit, give individuality and accentuate the silhouette. Whether you are heading to a family event, a night out in town, or a party, make sure to choose outerwear that will take you anywhere this summer. Opt for interesting pieces in quality fabrics that flatter the shape and stand the test of time.

Skinnies or not skinnies

Skinny jeans have been around for some time now, and are still a coveted piece in a contemporary wardrobe. But this season we are seeing the return of the classic bootleg jeans, and I wonder if they had even gone away? To my eyes bootleg jeans clearly never went out of fashion, but skinny jeans took centre stage and it is no surprise that we thought skinnies were the only denim that were fashionable.

Castlebar councillor, Michael Kilcoyne said that a bye-law to ban the wearing of hoodies in the town should be explored. The councillor said at the town’s joint policing committee meeting on Monday that hoodies cause a problem for gardaí in identifying criminals.

The denim dilemma

No wardrobe should be without a good pair of jeans. Whether you prefer a skinny, a wide leg, or a boyfriend cut, jeans are a great staple, especially for the summer (if we ever get one). No matter what way you style them, they are the go-to piece, the old reliable, the never-let-you-down piece. My favourite outfit has always been a pair of dark denim skinny jeans, a white T-shirt, and a blazer, accessorised with scarves and lots of jewellery. It is chic and effortless, and most importantly, classic. Jeans are not always driven by trends, it is about fit and comfort in whatever style works for you. I have talked about denim before, but this time, it is about creating great outfits for the sun, or the rain.
